Pastor Search Team Meeting Update

Ed Reed shared our devotion this week from Luke 23, looking at the two thieves on the cross with Jesus. Both men deserved the punishment they were receiving, and one even acknowledged, “we are receiving what we deserve.” But then he turned to Jesus. Jesus responded with those incredible words of hope: “Today you shall be with Me in Paradise.” In that moment, the words of Jesus changed everything for him. His circumstances had not changed, but now he had the hope and promise of eternity with Jesus.

Ed also shared Hebrews 10:23–24, reminding us to hold fast to our hope because “He who promised is faithful.” We can have confidence in our hope because our confidence is in the One who made the promise. In Psalm 18:1–2, where David says that the Lord is his strength, his rock, his fortress and his deliverer. David’s hope and strength were found in the Lord. The same hope that David had, and the same hope that Jesus gave the thief on the cross, is the hope that we have today.

Proverbs 27:1 reminds us not to boast about tomorrow because we do not know what a day may bring. That is such a good reminder for us during this process. We may not know what tomorrow holds, but we know where our hope is. Our hope must be in Jesus because His promises are true, He is faithful, and the hope we have in Him is lasting.

We do not know exactly how or when the Lord will unfold His plan, but we can trust Him as we continue to do the work He has given us. He who promised is faithful.
