Pastor Search Team Meeting Update

1 John 5:13–15

First John was written by John, the last living apostle, and much of the book is about assurance. John wanted believers to know with confidence what is true. In verse 13, John says that those who believe in the name of the Son of God can know that they have eternal life. Then he gives us another assurance: “This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.”— 1 John 5:14. What an important promise for us as a Pastor Search Team. We can have complete confidence that God hears us when we pray according to His will.

Our responsibility, then, is not simply to ask God to give us what we want. It is to stay close enough to Him that what we want becomes what He wants. How do we do that? We live in His Word. We pray. We seek Him. We surrender our own preferences and continually ask Him to shape our desires according to His will. As we search for our next pastor, every one of us desires to find the very best man for our church. But even more importantly, we desire God’s man—a man who is walking closely with Him and whom God desires to place here. We are simply vessels God is using in this process.

We are praying that the Lord will bring us to the decision He has already determined. And that we will keep close to the Lord. We are praying that the Lord will help us live within His will so completely that we desire only what He desires. We are praying that the Lord will remove our personal preferences when they conflict with His, and that He will give us unity and discernment as we seek the man He have chosen.

If we remain close to Him, seek His will through His Word and prayer, and surrender our own desires, we can move forward with confidence—not because we have all the answers, but because we know He hears us.

We are continuing to accept candidates and review resumes that we have received.
